Fast Five (alternatively known as Fast & Furious 5 or Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist[4]) is a 2011 action film written by Chris Morgan and directed by Justin Lin and the fifth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. The film stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Dwayne Johnson and was first released in Australia on April 20, 2011 followed by a United States release on April 29, 2011. Fast Five follows Brian O'Conner (Walker), Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and Mia Toretto (Brewster) as they plan a heist to steal $100 million from corrupt businessman Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) while being pursued for arrest by U.S. DSS agent Luke Hobbs (Johnson).

"Being honest, I don't know how DOTA got as big as it did, given how hard it is to sit down and play it with your friends," says Erik Johnson, the man charged by Valve boss Gabe Newell with the task of heading up the Dota 2 project.

Erik is absolutely right. Defense of the Ancients, the Warcraft 3 mod maintained and developed by the reclusive IceFrog, is virtually impenetrable. (You can bone up on the basics and history in our Story of DOTA.) Millions, possibly tens of millions play it, but for some it remains an incomprehensible curiosity: a game they're aware of, but not playing.

Valve hopes to change all that.

Valve's Dota 2 matchmaking system is designed to pit players against similarly skilled opponents. A tutorial mode will teach newcomers the basics. There's even a coaching system that allows experienced players to "see through the eyes", as Erik puts it, of new players, letting them talk to them and explain the game's mechanics and intricacies. "We're going to solve all those issues. We want to make it so 10 people who are brand new to the game can have a bunch of fun playing together," Erik says, flatly.

Valve is showing Dota 2 for the first time via an invitation-only tournament with a million-dollar prize pot at German show Gamescom. (You can follow matches live at the Dota 2 website.) The Half-Life and Portal maker's show-floor booth is a gargantuan affair, packed with rows of seats either side of a giant plastic box. Inside the box stand the players, DOTA specialists flown in from across the globe to show off their micro-management prowess. Overhead, two huge screens hang side by side. It is clear: Dota 2 is a big deal.

Gamescom and this tournament serve to demystify Dota 2, showing us exactly what it is. It's an action RTS ("the closest descriptor we have," according to Erik). It has an RTS-style camera, but no base-building. 10 players, split into two teams, each control a single hero unit. The teams defend their Ancients while destroying their opponents'. One faction begins on the bottom left hand corner of the finely balanced map, the other on the top right. There are items, skills, and distinct abilities for each hero. There are RPG elements, designed to help you better your level one hero up to the 25 cap. Creeps walk the lanes, tempting you to satisfy your experience point hunger.

Watching the game played live rekindles memories of sitting gob-smacked in front of my PC monitor, studying grainy DOTA replay videos. These professional players control their heroes like Lionel Messi controls a football, weaving in and out of combat like the Barcelona great darts between bewildered defenders. As the giant screens smash out sword swipes and spellcasting, the whir of unit movement casts its own eerie spell over the audience. They make everything look so easy.

All this you can say about DOTA, of course. Indeed, Dota 2 still looks remarkably like a Blizzard game. Everything from the user interface to the cartoony design, the colourful palette to the tooltips is reminiscent of Defense of the Ancients. If Valve hadn't splashed the UI with its trademark grey and orange, you'd think it was Defense of the Ancients.

Some may baulk at the similarities between the two games, but as boss Gabe Newell recounts the story of how Dota 2 came to be, Valve's vision starts to make perfect sense.

"The reason we got started was because we were fans," he explains. In particular: Robin Walker, who heads up the Team Fortress 2 team, Adrian Finol, who worked on Half-Life 2, and project manager Erik Johnson. "They actually entered a league, got crushed and humiliated, and couldn't talk to each other for a couple of weeks because they were so humiliated."

Robin, Adrian and Erik approached IceFrog and asked him how he'd make a sequel. "We were a little bit star-struck," Gabe says. "It's like where you're a fan of something and you get to meet the person who has built it. We had that to get over." Get over it they did. "That group of people got all fired up and said, hey, we'd love to work with you on that. What do you think of coming to Valve?"

At that point, however, Newell had yet to give Dota 2 the thumbs up. It wasn't until Adrian spent a week building a proof-of-concept prototype, exploring the DOTA camera perspective and mechanics in Valve's own Source engine just to see if the game was feasible, that Dota 2 became a reality. "He just did it on his own initiative," Gabe says. "That's the sort of thing that causes us to make a decision.

"I have no idea what the costs are, or the profitability that's projected to be of Dota, because nobody's ever bothered to figure it out. For good or for ill, that's just not how we make decisions."

Dota 2, like Team Fortress 2, began life as a fan project, but it is now a fully-fledged Valve venture with a 60-strong team (the same size as the Half-Life 2 and Portal 2 teams) tweaking item balance and map design for its projected 2012 release.

That seems an excruciatingly long way away, particularly for a game that appears to be in such rude health (Gabe and Erik admit there are issues still to be resolved, including a mysterious lag problem that is currently affecting matches). Although press and public aren't being allowed to play the game yet - we'll report back in detail when we get access to the beta soon - the Gamescom tournament is providing DOTA veterans with plenty of concrete information. Replay videos are already on the internet. Experts are filling forums with discussion on the heroes' strengths and weaknesses. Players are already plotting strategies, contemplating set-ups and, generally, getting pretty excited about Valve's first foray into fantasy.

But where is IceFrog? On the day Dota 2 is revealed to the world, on the day thousands of gamers at Gamescom and on the internet are watching the first Dota 2 tournament ever, shouldn't the mysterious modder be around to take it all in?

"It's just drinking out a firehose. He fits right in with everybody else. He's fun to work with; a good collaborator. It was easier for us to adapt to him than the other way around, because he really hadn't had the experience of working with other people for the last few years. So for him it was like, who are all these people? There are so many people! They're everywhere!

"But he's having a lot of fun and pretty excited to see what's happening with Dota 2."

Funny that. So are we.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is an upcoming video game in the Assassin's Creed franchise to be developed and published by Ubisoft Montreal. Throughout the course of the game, the three protagonists from the previous games will be featured: Altaïr, Ezio and Desmond. It has been announced that it is the last game to feature Ezio Auditore and Altaïr Ibn La'Ahad, and the final game to be set in the Rennaisance era. The game is set to be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows on November 15, 2011.Square Enix confirmed that Revelations will be one of their games on display at this year's Tokyo Game Show.

Gameplay

The game will follow the series' standard open-world gameplay. New gameplay additions include an item called the hookblade, which can be used to zipline across the city or grab enemies to yank them in for a combo attack. The hookblade reportedly speeds up navigation by around 30 percent. Along with the hookblade, Ezio will also have 300 different bomb variations at his disposal, which will be craftable.

Multiplayer gameplay is also making a return in Revelations. The mode expands the basics of online modes from Brotherhood with new characters and locations. Players will be able to customize their characters' appearance and weapons, as well as start a guild and create its unique coat of arms. Matchmaking and game interface will be improved. Ubisoft says that while the component is returning, they’re putting greater focus towards the narrative, as it’s the heart of the franchise. As players level up in the game, they will move up in their Abstergo Templar rank and gain access to more information about the company. New multiplayer modes will be added to the already existing modes, including "story-oriented quests". Some multiplayer maps will be based in the island of Rhodes.

Marketing and release

Ubisoft announced a PlayStation Network timed exclusive multiplayer beta for Assassin's Creed Revelations on August 10, 2011. From September 3-11, PlayStation Plus and Uplay members will get exclusive access to the beta on Playstation 3. No word on when it'll open up to non-members and Xbox 360 owners. The beta will offer access to nine characters (The Sentinel, The Vanguard, The Guardian, The Vizier, The Thespian, The Deacon, The Bombardier, The Trickster, The Champion – all boasting different abilities), three maps (Knight's Hospital, Antioch, Constantinople) and four playable modes (the previously seen Wanted and Manhunt options joined by new Deathmatch and Artifact Assault variants).Additionally, Ubisoft has released an Assassin's Creed: Revelations Avatar collection Xbox 360, which includes a Codex prop, Desmond’s black hoodie, and an Eagle for a pet. There is also the following outfits available representing the following: Ezio, Bombardier, Guardian, Sentinel and Vanguard Outfit (female only).Those who pre-order through Best Buy will get an exclusive multiplayer character.

Retail editions

There are several different limited editions of Assassin's Creed Revelations. The Animus, Collector's and Special editions is available on PS3/XBOX360 platforms and currently only available in Australia and Europe, while the Signature Edition is currently only available through GameStop in North America on the PS3/XBOX360 platforms. The Animus Edition contains of an Animus box, an in-depth encyclopedia, an animated short film (Assassin's Creed Embers Movie) and the original game's soundtrack. Test Methodology and Setting

I tried testing to see how far scaling ASRock Mobo CF Gen3 Z68 Extreme7 with NF200 chip 16x/16x runing dual GPU, In addition to the CF mode is quite a lot of factors that influence the outcome of scaling, the main factor VGA driver itself is quite influential on my test this using the AMD Catalyst 5.11 WHQL.

iPhone 5 preview

What new features and innovations will Apple roll out in the next iteration of the iPhone? A patent application here, a parts order there ... this week on Upgrade Your Life, Yahoo! News' Becky Worley puts together the clues plus some educated guesses, to bring us a preview of Apple's iPhone 5!

What will it look like?

Last year's model, the iPhone 4, had a glass backplate that could get scratched. It's possible that the iPhone 5 will have a brushed metal backplate, which would help keep it from scratching and make the phone lighter as well.

There have been some recent rumors that the phone could get considerably thinner, even tapering toward the bottom. The square edges could round out, making it look a little more like an iPod touch.

Besides that, we've heard that Steve Jobs isn't a fan of physical buttons; the iPhone 4 only has one, on its front. The iPhone 5 might turn that one physical home button into a virtual, on-screen home button, which would get out of the way while you're watching videos. This would give it a four-inch screen, half an inch bigger than the iPhone 4's. But another rumor has the display bumping up to only a 3.7-inch screen, and the home button getting slightly larger.

Remember, none of this info is coming from Apple. It's all rumor, speculation and guessing, so take it with a grain of salt.

What performance upgrades will it have?

It'll have a faster, probably dual-core processor, plus more memory and an improved camera -- one that might be able to take 8 megapixel still pictures and record 1080p HD video. You'll be able to play more realistic games, switch between open apps more quickly, and keep more web pages open at once.

Beyond that, you can bet that Apple doesn't want a repeat of "Antennagate," and will be paying special attention to the iPhone 5's antenna to make sure there are fewer connection issues.

Will it have any new features?

We already know what features the iPhone 5 won't have: A removable battery, a memory card slot, and support for Adobe Flash videos. These features are commonly seen on other phones, but are not what customers expect from Apple products.

One feature that Apple recently filed a patent on is being called a "Smart Bezel" by rumor sites. These are areas just outside the screen that can light up and are touch sensitive. They could be game controls or battery indicators, or let you use new finger-swipe gestures to control your iPhone!

Another feature they might add is called NFC, or Near-Field Communication. This is a technology that would let you pay for things by waving your iPhone near a sensor, sort of like what some 'wave-to-pay' credit cards can do today. NFC is already in widespread use in Japan, and is being tested in the United States. Apple may decide to hold off on it, though, until people are more comfortable using their phones to make payments.

One other possibility is that the iPhone 5 will get induction charging. That's where you plug in a separate charging pad, and your iPhone recharges just by touching it.

When will the iPhone 5 be announced?

Our best guess is that it'll be sometime this fall -- they might choose to announce it at the yearly iPod event in September, for instance, which would mean that it'd be available in time for the holidays. The iPhone 4 was announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference last June, though, so the iPhone 5 might debut at this year's WWDC ... or it might not appear until next year. Who knows?

It's possible that Apple's next big iPhone announcement will be for a 4G Verizon iPhone, instead of the iPhone 5. Networks like Verizon are rolling out super-high speed, 4G wireless infrastructure, and competitors' phones are already taking advantage of it. Don't expect Apple to lag behind them for long!

Are there any other new iPhones expected?

One persistent rumor has been that of an "iPhone Nano," a tiny iPhone with a smaller screen and far less memory. Apple's been working on a way to let you access your iTunes library online, which might let you get to your music and apps without needing the expensive flash memory chips that a regular iPhone has. That would make the iPhone Nano cheaper as well as smaller.

On the other hand, Apple normally just sells last year's model at a reduced price, for people who want a cheaper iPhone. Plus, screen resolution issues make a dramatically smaller iPhone unlikely ... so file this one under "maybe."

Will there be any surprises?

There usually are! We don't know what Apple's planning, so stay tuned to find out.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (abbreviated to PES 2012 and known officially as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2012 in Asia) is the eleventh edition in the Pro Evolution Soccer series developed and published by Konami with production assistance from the Blue Sky Team. Lionel Messi, who has been the cover star for the series since PES 2009, will be replaced by Cristiano Ronaldo who was also a cover star on PES 2008.

Like previous versions of the game, it will be exclusively licensed by UEFA to contain the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup competitions along with a license from CONMEBOL to feature the Copa Santander Libertadores. Referees' governing UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup matches will wear the official UEFA Champions League uniforms, which is a first for the series.

On July 28, 2011, Konami confirmed that PES 2012 will be released for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows on September 27, 2011 in The Americas; September 29th in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey, Portugal, Israel and the Middle East; October 6, 2011 (as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2012) in Japan; and October 14, 2011 in the remainder of Europe as well as in Oceania. PES 2012's gameplay is primarily a refinement of PES 2011, with fewer big changes than the previous iteration but many smaller improvements and changes in areas such as artificial intelligence, speed, animation, and physics.

Among the new features is the Teammate Control system, where a secondary player may be controlled, either during play, or at a set piece or throw-in. This allows players to be placed precisely, make runs, and shake off markers before calling for the ball. Manual and assisted versions of the feature are available for varying degrees of difficulty and control.

Refereeing has been improved and includes a full implementation of the advantage rule, with the referee pulling back play for bookings after the ball goes out of play. The "catch-up bug", where defenders would catch dribbling attackers too easily, regardless of the attacker's pace, will be addressed.[9] Gameplay is more fluid, with better response when controlling the ball,[9] and goalkeepers have been improved with new animations and generally more reliable goalkeeping performances.

Artificial intelligence has been improved over previous PES games, for example AI players will play more thoughtfully when defending rather than simply applying pressure, and AI teammates will make more intelligent movement decisions.

A new mode called, 'Football Life' showcases the different career paths in the sport, and allows users to experience a career as a player, manager or owner (via the all-new unlockable 'Club Boss' mode, where you steer a club fiscally). It is an umbrella title spanning the popular 'Master League' and 'Become a Legend' modes, both of which have been enhanced for the new game.

The 'Training Challenges' will allow users to refine their set-piece skills and to get to grips with the possibilities afforded by the new 'Teammate Control' system.

Online play has been improved with the return of 'Master League Online', plus a series of exciting community elements, known as 'myPES', designed to play up the competitive natures of the series. The new personal data system which allows players to save preferred option lists, control elements and an avatar will also be shown.

PES 2012 is planned to be released for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on October 14, 2011.

Driving a car at speed can be exacting, thrilling and really, really rewarding. That much has powered the likes of Gran Turismo 5 or Forza Motorsport 3, but there's one thing those games don't convey so well; driving a car at speed can also be absolutely terrifying, and that's a facet that's at the very core of Shift 2: Unleashed, EA, DICE and Slightly Mad Studio's second krack of the racing whip.

When it released late in 2009, Need for Speed: Shift brought some welcome flair to the well-worn art of pounding the tarmac. Its depiction of speed was sensational, the colours draining from a screen that was smeared with a liberal splash of motion blur. Shift 2: Unleashed takes that idea and runs with it, the result the all new helmet cam.

Framed by the visor it's a driver's eye view that exaggerates the extreme. Head towards a corner and the eyes will shift towards the apex, pull alongside a driver and it'll likely glance over while colliding will again dramatically shift the depth of field - and it's all performed to the terrifying soundtrack of an engine's exaggerated bark and roar. It's certainly immersive, and it feels like the experience of racing a car as seen through the lens of Gaspar Noe.

It's not just its depiction of speed that's sensationalist – its driving is too. Like its predecessor it skirts around that twilight zone between sim and arcade that few racers have managed to tread well. A burst around a night-time Spa confirms that it's working well with the GT car we drive skating around with an overload of nervous energy, but there's still a sim heart beating beneath it all.

"If you go to Elite mode, you get all the benefits of a totally accurate physics model," says DICE's Marcus Nilsson, and with his boss Patrick Soderlund's involvement in the FIA's GT series we're inclined to believe him. "If you get into the GT3 car which Patrick drives, that feels like that car does in real life. We've got a good mirror of how to create that. The physics engine is very sim, and we can tweak it to make a more sensational feel for the player who wants that."

There's also the expected boost in content – Shanghai and Bathurst help fill out the track list, and the addition of the official FIA GT licence brings with it a fleet of desirable race cars as well as an opportunity for Soderlund to play as himself. The track list runs to around 100 with 130 cars to hurl around them - numbers that are eclipsed by Gran Turismo 5, though EA's not particularly bothered. "We're not trying to innovate with the numbers like other games in the genre do," boasts Nilsson, "we're trying to innovate behind the wheel, where it really matters."

It's a thinly veiled potshot at Polyphony's opus, and EA's not being shy about its expectations for Shift 2: Unleashed. The original Shift was, until a few weeks back, quite easily the best Need for Speed game for nearly half a decade, but this time out it's got bigger concerns than simply reviving an ailing franchise; now it's got Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport in its sights. "This game is built to become number 1," says Nilsson in a typically Nordic and brilliantly matter of fact way.

And why not? With DICE now heading up the franchise and Criterion delivering what could be the best arcade racer of this generation with Hot Pursuit, the Need for Speed series has never looked healthier. Shift 2: Unleashed may be bashful about its heritage – the Need for Speed part is relegated from the title and will merely be part of the game's box branding – but its immediate bloodline is apparent.

Autolog, the social networking feature that formed the backbone of Hot Pursuit, is here in tweaked form, providing a thread that's set to continue with future Need for Speed games. Within the more serious-minded world of Shift 2: Unleashed its benefits are obvious – competing for fastest times amidst a group of friends has already proved addictive in Hot Pursuit, and when it's transferred over to the more precise art of race car driving that's only going to be amplified.

XP earnt by beating friends times on the speedwall (Autolog's own take on friend's leaderboards) will feed into the overall progression system, and again it's a system with depth, doling out points for various on-track achievements. In the original Shift the feature was smart and compelling, and there's no reason to believe that won't be the case second time around.

And second time around it's heartening that, in the new helmet cam experience, DICE and Slightly Mad Studios is finding room for innovation in a genre that can be slow to move forward. Expect to read more in the run-up to its Spring 2011 release.

Valve updated its Counter-Strike formula in 2004 with the release of Counter-Strike: Source, a new entry in the shooter franchise that Valve completely overhauled using its Source engine. Now, Valve is updating its franchise again, today announcing Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Debuting in early 2012 on Steam (for the PC and Mac) Xbox Live Arcade, and PlayStation Network, Global Offensive features new game modes, weapons, maps, and characters to the franchise. This will mark the series' first appearance on XBLA and the PSN.

Additionally, gamers will be able to be able to fight on updated versions of original Counter-Strike maps including de_dust and others. Lastly, Global Offensive will support matchmaking and leaderboards.

Valve also today shared new sales statistics for Counter-Strike. The publisher said that the Counter-Strike franchise--which debuted 12 years ago this month--has sold over 25 million units. Crysis 2 [Preview]

amendmentsWhen I last previewed Crysis 2 back in June, I mentioned how striking the sheer verticality of the environments were. This week I got to spend another half hour with the game in an entirely new level (labeled "Semper Fi or Die") late in the game, and Crysis 2 had a new surprise in store for me: enemy AI that took advantage of all that space - and a reason to use it myself.

The level started out with Crysis 2's nano-suited protagonist regaining consciousness as a team of marines fend off an attack from the game's alien enemies. Once the threat was taken care of, I was given a handgun and set off with the squad into the wreckage of a park area destroyed during the invasion of New York.

This all sounds innocuous enough. Plenty of games have used the idea of "wrecked city areas." But none have done it quite the way that Crysis 2 is doing it. This city park - which bears a passing resemblance to a pair of fairly major park areas in real-life New York City - isn't just littered with overturned trashcans or benches, it's been completely destroyed. There are giant tears in the ground leading all the way to the sewer levels of the city, which in turn lead to a variety of routes and approaches for attack.

That last part seems like the thing in Crysis 2 that's really starting to click as I spend more time with it. In the last game, much of the size and scale of environments seemed a little gratuitous. In Crysis 2, there's a sense of intention present in the level design thus far. Environments aren't designed around being impressive, they're tailored to specific combat scenarios, and it's really working to make playing it more interesting.

The enemy AI also seem markedly tweaked to make enemies fun to fight. The alien soldiers are agile and fast and can take a fair bit of punishment, and more importantly, they use their mobility to avoid you just enough to make it fun to catch and kill them. This is complemented by the previously mentioned level design. After watching a developer play through the level for a bit, I took the controller and played out the situation completely differently, using a combination of cloaking and sniping and in-close melee attacks to handle combat situations. I was aided in that by the nano-suit upgrade system, which allows you to purchase new abilities to customize your approach to Crysis 2.

I'm going to say something that may irk some of you, but I mean it in the best way possible: Crysis 2 seems to have taken some pages from the Halo series' design manual. The idea of strung together combat sandboxes is all over the place, though the sandboxes in question are enormous, and the organic feeling AI evoke Bungie's influential series. Clearly, Crytek has a number of tricks of their own in store for the game, but the comparison isn't hard to make.

I was also aided by significantly improved game-pad support in Crysis 2. I was playing the PC version of the game with a wired 360 controller, and aside from the raw visual splendor on the screen - and seriously, I'm not one to to fellate the original Crysis's graphics, since I found them a little boring, but DAMN is Crysis 2 looking amazing on PC - it played very smoothly. Crytek has thrown in some snap-to targeting on the left trigger and a bit of aim assist to boot, and configurations are customizable, a major change from the last game. Switching between powers might actually be easier on the 360 pad than on the PC; pulling off manuevers like taking aim, quickly uncloaking and firing, then cloaking again are pulled off quickly using the bumper to phase in and out.

Unfortunately, while my recent time with the game has reassured me that Crysis 2 will translate perfectly well to console controls, I'm left with more questions than answers as to how the game will fair technically speaking. To be blunt, I'm not quite sure how Crytek will be able to pull off the enormous combat environments on the Xbox 360 and PS3. We haven't seen the console versions of Crysis 2 for months; in fact, we've never seen the PS3 version at all. With just a few short months of development time left, I'm growing more and more curious about how Crytek's first foray outside of the PC space will end up.

Network topology is the layout pattern of interconnections of the various elements (links, nodes, etc.) of a computer or biological network. Network topologies may be physical or logical. Physical topology refers to the physical design of a network including the devices, location and cable installation. Logical topology refers to how data is actually transferred in a network as opposed to its physical design. In general physical topology relates to a core network whereas logical topology relates to basic network.

Topology can be understood as the shape or structure of a network. This shape does not necessarily correspond to the actual physical design of the devices on the computer network. The computers on a home network can be arranged in a circle but it does not necessarily mean that it represents a ring topology.

Any particular network topology is determined only by the graphical mapping of the configuration of physical and/or logical connections between nodes. The study of network topology uses graph theory. Distances between nodes, physical interconnections, transmission rates, and/or signal types may differ in two networks and yet their topologies may be identical.

A local area network (LAN) is one example of a network that exhibits both a physical topology and a logical topology. Any given node in the LAN has one or more links to one or more nodes in the network and the mapping of these links and nodes in a graph results in a geometric shape that may be used to describe the physical topology of the network. Likewise, the mapping of the data flow between the nodes in the network determines the logical topology of the network. The physical and logical topologies may or may not be identical in any particular network.
